Synkrotron back up synchronisation program
Synkrotron
The usual use of Synkrotron is to automatically or manually copy files and directories from one directory to another. Unnecessary copying is avoided. Cloud drives are a common destination. This avoids the common file handling errors that occur with the direct use of cloud drives.
Synkrotron has a suggested donation of $40 NZ per computer. You should however test the program for suitability if you wish. There are no deactivated features while testing.
Download Microtron Synkrotron here (unofficial release). The Bank account specified is in NZ. Payments are donations and the software is not guaranteed bug free, but I use it all the time for daily backups of a customers business. I back up many work folders to Raspberry Pi servers on my network regularly e.g. invoicing, PCB drawings, Arduino sketches.
This software is available in USA, Australia, Japan and in Canada BC and Q. If donations are not affected by sales tax then it is available to you also.
Synkrotron
- should not be used outside of the usual document folders and network/cloud drives used to store documents and media.
- uses a timer to schedule multiple backups. This backup thread is much faster than the manual main thread copy mechanism (no longer available apart from simulate).
Microtron is open to negotiation to improve the human computer interaction of Synkrotron, via a student project. Such a project would likely include:
- Complete the testing for bugs.
- Improve the user interface.
- Possibly increase the number of threads able to be used at once.
- Improve response to power failure. Restart jobs that were lost.
The market position could also be defined. Currently I back up a clients DropBox with this program and I back up a range of folders on my computer with specified frequency and timing. I use Raspberry Pis as servers and this works well. Some of these servers are at other sites e.g. using ZeroTier.
